On November 1, startup clubs from Korea University Sejong Campus won the Grand Award (Sejong City Mayor’s Award) and the Excellence Award (Sejong Center for Creative Economy & Innovation Director’s Award) at the ‘2024 Sejong UNION Startup Idea Competition,’ held with the theme of solving regional issues in Sejong City.

 

The competition is co-hosted by institutions in Sejong City, including Korea University Sejong Campus, Hongik University Sejong Campus, Korea University of Media Arts, and the Sejong Center for Creative Economy & Innovation. It brings together outstanding teams selected from internal university competitions to showcase their ideas.

 

The Grand Award was awarded to the Team ‘EcoNex’ (led by Park Jaehyun, Department of Environmental Systems Engineering). The team proposed a ‘shared goods platform’ as a startup idea to address economic and social challenges stemming from the high percentage of single-person households in Sejong City, earning high marks.

The Excellence Award went to the Team ‘DaGachi’ (led by Ahn Soojong, Electro-Mechanical Systems Engineering). The team presented an idea for recording bicycle road map data using autonomous vehicles, contributing to the vision of transforming Sejong into a ‘smart city.’

 

Director Choi Boseung of the Crimson Institute for Industry-University Convergence stated, "I am delighted that the students’ passion and efforts toward the goal of entrepreneurship over the past year have shone through in this competition. We will continue to actively support the discovery and growth of outstanding entrepreneurial human resources from Korea University Sejong Campus."
